Smedley Hand Dynamometer

Product Code: 171

Grip strength measurement
The Smedley Hand Dynamometer is a hand held instrument for measuring grip strength, fatigue rate, and recovery rate. The dominant hand should be 10% stronger than the nondominant hand. This comparison is frequently used in neuropsychological test batteries to assess function of the nervous system.

The handle is adjustable to fit the grip length of the hand. The Smedley Hand Dynamometer measures grip strength up to 100 kilograms in 500 gram graduations.

Two dial hands move up together, but one “freezes”at the maximum grip achieved, while the other follows the grip up or down to show the current squeeze strength.

A recording hand dynamometer (No. 56380) is available with a bridge transducer for use with a chart recorder or data collection system, such as the PowerLab®.
